more information on prices of PSN's Globalstar products and its service rates,
contact PSN Sales Support at the numbers listed above or see the web site. Can
I have the same telephone number for both cellular and satellite service? No,
each service is activated separately and has a different telephone number.
The icons on the handset will tell you which service is active and you
can select between them in the preferences menu.
The cellular part of the handset does not have to be activated. Each
Globalstar call is composed of satellite airtime and long distance (ground)
connection tolls. The are no
handset to handset calls without going through a ground connection. Case
1- If someone calls you, the caller will pay the long-distance (ground)
connection to the appropriate Globalstar Gateway station.
You will always pay for the satellite airtime.
Note the gateway station will vary as you travel from gateway to gateway.
The gateway rates of domestic or international depends on if you are
connected through a gateway owned by your service provider or another service
provider. By pressing the info
button on the handset, you can see to which provider you are connected. Case
2- If you call someone from your Globalstar phone.
You will pay the satellite airtime (domestic or international) and the
long-distance (ground call) connect charge. Case
3- If you call another Globalstar handset.
Both Globalstar user will pay for their satellite airtime and the caller
will pay the long-distance connection between the gateway stations. Does
Globalstar provide coverage all over the world? No,
Globalstar does plans on covering the populated areas of the world, with
coverage expanding as gateways earth station are opened around the world.
See the planned schedules at under coverage and availability on the web
site, we try to keep the maps current. The
callers simply dial that number, as if they were dialling your home gateway
(which in the US is a Texas number). The
Globalstar system will the look to see if you are connected to your home
gateway, and then search internationally to see if you are connected to any
Globalstar gateway. If you are not connected to a gateway, the caller will get a
“user is not available message” or asked to leave a message, if you have
voice mail. If they leave a message
you will be notified the next time you register you Globalstar phone to any
Globalstar gateway. Callers
simply Raise the antenna, and power on their phone.
Remember each call is treated as an international phone call with
applicable dialing required, so you enter the number desired in the format of: [country code] [telephone number] [SEND] 0r 00 [country code] {telephone number] [SEND] For
example a call to Washington D.C., with the phone number "202 555
1234" and United States country code of "1" would be dialed as +1
202 555 1234 [SEND]. The [SEND] key must be pressed after the number is dialed.
The plus sign and 00 [zero zero] are
interchangeable, it tells the phone the next number are a country code. The US
Globalstar gateway does not require the country code for US calls, but other
gateways do, it is a good habit to use the country code. International Calls To
make an international call, that is calls with other than 1 for the country
code, then enter the country code and telephone number: The
[SEND] key is also pressed to receive a call when the phone rings.
You can also program the phone to answer a call when any key is pressed,
see menu # 7 Preferences, 4 Calling, 4 Any-Key Answer.
If the phone fails to work properly, first make sure you are in the coverage any of a Globalstar satellite. You will see a satellite icon on the screen with the signal strength also indicated, upper left icon with the bars. If the signal strength is low or fading in and out, it is unlikely you will be able to complete a call. You need to move to where you get a better signal from the satellite. Contact the PSN +1 703-330-9028. If a solution cannot be given over the phone, the unit may require shipment to PSN for repairs. You should also have you phone in “Satellite Only” mode, this will stop it from searching for cellular service.
PSN
offers a one-year return policy on all manufacturer defective hardware and
software. The customer pays shipping charges to send the materials to PSN and
the company will pay associated costs to return the unit.
Yes, the phone can receive a 19-character message. You can use the Globalstar website to do this at; http://www.globalstarusa.com/services/enhanced/sms.shtml When your phone receives a message from your personal mailbox, a small envelope will appear on its display. You can access the message via your phone’s menu.
No.
Globalstar service offers coverage only where there is a gateway earth station
to receive your call from the satellite. Please
consult your user guide to see where service is currently provided.
No,
the satellite service is unlikely to work in a building or any area where the
sky is obstructed. The satellite service is based upon line-of-sight access to
the satellite; therefore in-building coverage for handsets is generally not
available. You may see the satellite symbol showing you could place a call, but
the call will likely as the satellite(s) pass to the other side of the building. However,
the cellular half of the phone is not dependent on line-of-sight access to the
satellite so it provides a better means of receiving messages in urban
locations. You must have the cellular half of the phone activated and it will
have a different telephone number than the satellite phone.
In any case, callers who are unable to reach the subscriber for any
reason will have the option of leaving a message on the voice mail. Where
can I get more info on Voice Mail? Have a look at this Acrobat info sheet on Voice Mail.
