(download a PDF version of this document here)

Flightcell features

Flightcell™ was designed to enable a cellphone to be used through and aviation headset, but can also be used with your Iridium satellite phone (model 9505). Flightcell International, manufacturers of Flightcell™, will be releasing an updated version of their product in February. This version contains enhancements which will provide improved sound quality for satellite phone users.

Flightcell™ will be available in five standard versions:

* Helicopter (single plug)
* Standard GA (dual plug)
* Stereo GA (dual plug)
* Stereo Bose™, for use with the Bose X headset. This version will also be continually powered from ship’s power via the headset lead.
*Low impedance (for military headsets).

SPECIFICATION

Flightcell™ provides for the following connections:

--Input/output from headset
--Input/output from intercom
--Input/output from cell phone
--Input from music player or other audio device (e.g. heart monitor used in emergency rescue)
--An RJ45 port provides for connections to a hand-held radio, video recorder, CVR etc, and for connection of a second headset (providing a simple intercom).
 --The volume from all connected devices are adjusted simultaneously via Flightcell’s master volume control, but all input and output volumes can be individually adjusted to optimize for individual device characteristics – this means your Flightcell™  can be optimized for your specific communication equipment.
-- A mute control allows the user to mute out other inputs when making a cell phone call, as well as isolating the user from the intercom so others on the intercom can’t hear his conversation.
--Flightcell™ has a built-in battery with 50 hour battery life, rechargeable from 220/110 volt AC power or from 9-28V DC power, using supplied adaptors.
--Flightcell™ can also run off ship’s power. The battery also provides emergency communications via headset/Flightcell™/cell phone if aircraft power goes down.

Flightcell™ is more than just a device for connecting cellphones and headsets, it is a multifunction interface capable of connecting nearly any type of cellular phone, handheld transceiver radio, audio player, video camera and aircraft simultaneously to one or more headsets or helmets. It also has a simple built-in 2 place intercom. It can be powered from any power source 9-32 volts as well as having its own built-in rechargeable batteries giving in excess of 50hrs continuous usage between charges where a power source is not desirable or available.
