| John M has been using an Iridium phone supplied by PSN for a while now. On the note below, he highlights the 'insurance' value of his Iridium phone" "Hi Don,
Right after we left this rest area, Cathy ran over some truck re-tread casings and blew a rear tire! We were lucky as we just got back into the AT&T cell service or I would have had at least a 20-minute Iridium phone bill. The North Jersey AAA took a while to figure out where we were calling from and then gave us a local number to call for help. In the meantime, I had managed to unfreeze the lug nuts and had changed the van's tire. I was then surprised to find that the spare had only 15 pounds of air! The tow truck showed up right on time and followed us for 3 miles to the exit. We inflated the spare and then we drove about 20 miles to buy a replacement for the blow-out. Anyway, while we didn't need to use it, this proves, just having an Iridium on these poor cell coverage roads is really cheap insurance. And, if I was thinking (I really was too hot, sweaty and dirty to think!) I should of had Cathy stand by the van, while it was up on the jack, making believe she was getting ready to make a call for help! 73, John, KB2KH" |
