IRIDIUM IS BACK Iridium is back and doing OK. We are reactivating many old Iridium units. The Motorola units can be re-flashed for updated software, which gives better performance and data service. We will re-flash the units free with activation by PSN. Activation is free until July, and service is only $20/month and $1.50/minute. We have refurbished Motorola 9500 kits on sale for only $495. www.skyhelp.net/Iridium_new.htm OLD KYOCERA SATPHONES At the Dayton Hamvention, the old Kyocera Iridium satphones were on sale for $40. We have activated several satphone units, and they work with voice and Short Message Service, which is free on Iridium. However, these units are un-warranteed and un- supported, so buyer beware. The old satphone units will not be able to use the Iridium data service. Write now for details. don at skyhelp.net GLOBALSTAR AND ANALOG MODEMS For dial-up Internet service, Globalstar can act as the ISP and give Internet access. This is done but entering #777 and the number to be dialed in the 'Connect To' window. However, if you want to dial a modem directly you can, just enter the modems telephone number in the 'Connect To' window and Globalstar will attempt to dial through to the modem and log on. See the information sheet on the web site. http://www.skyhelp.net/globalstar.htm BUG IN MOTOROLA 9505 If you are lucky enough to have a Motorola 9505 handset, you need to know that a bug has been found. The problem occurs when you terminate a call by pushing the OFF button rather than the END button. This may cause the unit to become inoperable when you try to turn it on again. The only way to solve the problem is to send it in for re-flashing. A new version of software that corrects this problem will be out soon. PSN customers with a 9505 will get a free 9500 unit as a loaner while we complete the upgrade. IRIDIUM DATA Iridium data service is due in June. Our first shipment of data adapters is on the way; testing and write-ups will be done soon. |
