IRIDIUM RATES NAMED The new Iridium usage rate plans now have names: the Frequent Caller Plan and the Stand-By Caller Plan. The rates are a little different than those in the unnamed plans, but the idea is the same. Infrequent users pay no recurring per-month fee, but pay a higher per-use cost. Frequent users pay $49.95 per month, but their per-minute usage rate is lower. This means Iridium users on the islands (or Iridium callers to the islands) enjoy the same lower per-minute rates as if they were calling the U.S. or Canada. The islands include: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, Northern Marianas, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and Grenadines, U.S. Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, and United States. IRIDIUM TELEPHONE ONLY $1495 That's right, the new price on the Iridium telephone is only $1495 coupled with an activation fee of $200. You will have no monthly recurring cost; you pay only for usage. Imagine--satellite communications at your fingertips and no monthly bill if you don't use it! The new basic equipment package includes the Motorola 9500 handset, standard and high-capacity batteries, an auto power adapter, an AC power adapter, an antenna adapter, a portable auxiliary antenna and a leather holster with lanyard. Cellular cassettes are also available for the phone. For GSM-900 the cost is $395. A CDMA-AMPS adapter is coming soon. There is no monthly fee for the cellular access; you only pay for usage. Iridium Pagers (Motorola 9501) are now only $395 which includes the AA battery and holster with lanyard. Activate it as a Follow-Me Pager with your phone and pay nothing each month for paging service.
