NEW IRIDIUM USAGE RATES

With the new rates announced by Iridium, you can pay a $99 activation fee (Plan A) paying only a $35 access fee (plus usage) or pay a $199 activation fee (Plan B) and pay no access fee each month. Plan C is the original rate plan. At first blush the no fee per month seems like the best deal, but maybe not. Below we have worked out a comparison chart based of the number of minutes used each month. As you can see, at about 150 minutes per month the costs favor the Plan A with the $35 access fee each month. Even Plan C looks good when you using over 500 minutes per month.

You pick a plan when you first sign up for service, to switch later there is a $100 fee. Old customers get to switch on time for free.

Voice mail can be turned on or off per monthly billing cycle. If on any time of the cycle, you pay for the whole cycle.

Pagers that are linked to a phone now have no monthly fee. An independent Pager is only $34.95/month, voice mail is an extra $19.95. Linking means the phone and pager have the same telephone number.

If you have a cellular cassette with your Iridium phone, there is no monthly charge only your usage, that's a lot better than renting a cell phone. Cassettes come in a GSM-800 or AMPS/CDMA-800 versions.
