GLOBALSTAR(r) COVERAGE EXPANDING Get the latest in Globalstar(r) coverage, future offerings and services with the new Globalstar(r) Roadmap. The latest countries covered by Globalstar(r) are Australia, China, and Morocco. Find the roadmap at our web site, http://www.skyhelp.net/availability.htm ORBCOMM RATES Orbcomm(r) will institute usage-based pricing in August. The new rate sheet is on the Orbcomm(r) web site. The rates are divided into two groups: "R" for those units that only send reports and "M" for two-way messaging. You need to figure the higher o f the total transmissions sent or the total character count for the month. Based on that estimate you can decide which plan you will fall under, and it can be adjusted every 3 months based on usage. GLOBALSTAR(r) RENTALS AVAILABLE We now have a supply of Globalstar(r) handsets available for rent. Rentals are going for $15/day with a two-week minimum. Longer-term leases can be arranged to meet your special needs. GLOBALSTAR(r) COVERAGE TESTS In order to make sure Globalstar(r) coverage is what we say it is, PSN has been sending teams to test the quality of service in a variety of locations. The first results are in, and they look good: * Dennis Fria, of Mustang Yachts, used one of our units during a race from Texas to Mexico across the Gulf of Mexico. Read about his experience at our web site, http://www.skyhelp.net/sailing_with_dolphins.htm * Don Rickerson, of PSN, conducted a series of blockage tests in the woods along the Pennsylvania and New York State border on Memorial Day. These tests examined system performance when confronted by the kind of foliage and terrain you could expect to s ee while hunting and hiking. See the write up at our web site, http://www.skyhelp.net/testimon.htm * Ron Smith of Canada was using his Globalstar(r) unit inside his cabin to make calls. The cabin had a simple plywood and shingle roof. IRIDIUM(r) NEWS The Washington Times, on May 31, reported a $50million bid for Iridium(r) is being strongly considering. De-orbit plans are on hold. Personally, I think Iridium(r) will come back as a pager and data company with a small telephone offering. With a reduced number of earth stations, operating costs should come closer to matching revenues. |
