IRIDIUM DEAL FALLS THROUGH
Again, another business has failed to back Iridium, even with a purchase price
of $50 million, plus a few other costs. Better trade in your phone to PSN while
trades are still being taken. See the news report at http://www.nwfusion.com/news/2000/0728iridium.html
GLOBALSTAR NEWEST GATEWAYS
Globalstar has activated new gateways in Peru, Northern China and Moscow for
commercial service. This makes 39 countries in which Globalstar is active. They
are also active in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean and Alaska. The Caribbean is
being covered by the Venezuela gateway until the Puerto Rico gateway opens next
month. Globalstar data service is due in October.
GLOBALSTAR SAILOR WANTED BY PSN
As you can see by the coverage map on the web site, Globalstar now claims to
cover the North Atlantic. I would like a volunteer to test the coverage on a
voyage. In return for a report on the coverage, PSN will over a reduced rate on
the rental during the test.
GLOBALSTAR LEASING- BEST DEAL IN THE WORLD
PSN's Globalstar $99-Lease-to-own is still open--only $99 down and $99/month for
a year, see detailsat http://www.skyhelp.net/
$99_lease.htm Its the best deal in the world, it spreads the payments over a
year and does not lock you into any long term usage contracts.
GLOBALSTAR IN ALASKA
Globalstar now covers Alaska http://www.skyhelp.net/globalstar.htm
. Since it is on the "fringe" of a gateway service area, your
availability is a bit less that in the central parts of North America. Please
check out the map on our web site, you'll see the coverage is superior to
anything else. Because it is a Low-Earth Orbit system, the satellites are in the
sky, not on or below the horizon.
HURRICANE SEASON ALMOST HERE
With the hurricane season almost here, remember PSN rents satellite
telephones. However if you wait till the last minute you will be competing with
everyone else, don't wait till the last minute to reserve you equipment.
PANASONIC 7100 SERIES ENDS
Panasonic has announced that it is taking final orders for the 7100 and
7101 series ORBCOMM transeivers. A supplier for a critical component of the unit
is stopping production of the part, so Panasonic has decide to stop production.
The new Panasonic ORBCOMM unit is the 7211, which has as many as 10 digital I/O
ports, 3 latching outputs, 6 analog inputs, and 3 serial ports. See http://skyhelp.net/orbcomm/orbcomm.htm
Testimonials
Graham Dickson, adventures@arctickingdom.com
, had a PSN Globalstar unit on one of his recent adventure trip near the
Canadian Arctic Circle. The phone was valuable for both communications and for
safety. See the picture of a diver being very close to a large walrus. Arctic

unit in the extreme conditions of the Antarctic. Most of the advice is good for
other electronics as well. http://skyhelp.net/orbcomm/orbcomm.htm
