Globalstar Offers Internet 

Globalstar is now offering IP over the telephone handset. Older phones, that is, phones with a software version less that 4.7.1.0.3 (Menu ->8 ->3), will have to be mailed in for a free software upgrade. You can call Globalstar at 1-877-728-7466 to get a return authorization. They will upgrade your current phone in 72 hours and they will sell you a data cable in the deal. If you have the current software version you need to order a new serial data cable that plugs into your computer. The data cable and CD set costs $69.95 and includes a modem serial cable and a CD with the installation software. PSN has these items in stock. Data calls are billed bas ed on time on the air, so you are billed for the airtime and not by the kilobyte when you access the Internet with the handset.

Money Back If Globalstar Goes Bust 

For those folks worried about Globalstar going bust (as Iridium did) and being stuck with a phone, Globalstar is offering a refund on their phones if the company goes bankrupt. See www.globalstarusa.com .

Globalstar Puerto Rico Gateway Opens On 28 November

Globalstar announced the opening of the gateway in Puerto Rico. This will allow Globalstar USA subscribers to place "local" calls throughout the Caribbean.

PocketMail and Globalstar
