Globalstar Changes

Globalstar is pleased to announce two enhancements to our data solutions offerings.
--First, packet data (#777) is now available for subscribers while roaming on the Mexican gateway. This is particularly good news for maritime data users in the Gulf of Mexico and near the southern portion of Baja California, who can now use packet data seamlessly in this area.
--Secondly, please see the attached release regarding the launch of simplex data service from the Venezuelan gateway. This allows subscribers using Globalstar simplex data modems to have complete service in the Venezuelan service area. This represents another investment in the Globalstar network – and another network improvement for Globalstar subscribers.
--Third, the free Short message Service (SMS) to the phone is now 32 characters long, up from the present 19 characters.

Globalstar Coverage Changes

--A proposed gateway in Alaska will give service to the entire state; it is scheduled for operation in 2006.
--US Domestic service will no longer cover Tridad and Tobago, this will now be part of the Venezuela gateway and therefore become roaming for US Globalstar user.

Globalstar One Month Free Offer

Until January 31, 2006 anyone agreeing to a 12 month service plan with more minutes than their current plan, will receive an extra month of service.  For Freedom plans that is a 13th month of service and for Liberty plans you get an extra month’s worth of minutes.

Iridium

A June 06 data transition from the present Apollo service to a new data service, details to be published in 2006.

INMARSAT

The INMARSAT F2 satellite, the one that will provide data service to the Americas, was recently launched.  There is a web cast of the launch from the Sea Launch facility that gives the count down from T- 20min and the news cast presents a lot of details about the satellite and sea launch facility.  The new laptop size units will provide high speed data, 144 kbps, for about $5/MB beginning this spring.
