MY DAY WITH THE GSC-100 PSN got to test one of the GSC-100 beta units at the June Hamfest in Manassas, VA. We were able to pass a number of messages successfully. You can read the full write-up at our web site under Company News. I was very pleased with the unit, and look forward to receiving the production units shortly. MISSING MAIL?? PSN conducted a changeover of our dial-up router in June. It finally began working on June 22; however, there is a chance that e-mail could have been "trashed" as the ISP was playing around with our Internet address. If you sent me mail or were expecting something from me and haven't received it yet, please ask again. Your request or my answer might have been lost during the transition. FAX SERVICE WORKING After passing a hundred or so fax transmissions, I can certify that the PSN Fax service works. It will send any text-based e-mail message to any fax machine in the world. Using your personal identification number (PIN), faxes can be originated from any e-mail account, not just from a satellite terminal. This gives you truly portable service with accountability. TTY TESTING We are in the process of testing the TTY hardware and software for the PSN TTY service. The TTY card is in the computer, and we are practicing sending TTY traffic by hand to get a feel for the protocol and for the various ways people use TTY service. UPDATING THE PSN WEB PAGE The PSN web page is being updated with a new look that will include an online catalog with secure ordering capability. Please feel free to write to me about any omissions or mistakes; I'll fix them as quickly as possible. You'll get a note when these updates are completed. SEMINAR AND PANEL AT NETEXPO I have been invited to conduct a seminar on "Satellite Communications on the Internet" and sit on the "Wireless Access" panel at NetExpo 98. The expo will be held September 9-11,1998, at the Washington Convention Center in Downtown Washington DC. I'm looking forward to the experience and hoping to make some good contacts. ORBCOMM SATELLITE COUNT As of today the active satellite count for ORBCOMM stands at eight. We are still waited for ORBCOMM to launch their second plane of eight satellites; however, the availability is much improved and will get better.
